No amount of polite reason is going to I've seen it in the UK too. In fact, this very same instructor no longer dives with a long hose. The reason? Well, in the past he hasn't needed it so he doesn't bring it anymore. During one dive last year, his buddy had a complete back gas failure and this guy was unable to help as he had independents with trimix and travel gas. The buddy had to switch to travel gas and make a fast ascent to a safe depth. And this incident taught him..........absolutely nothing!
