On the pickup day, which by the way on Mims boat we have picked George up from his lift bag as well on a few occasions in days gone by, due to accent lines breaking free or divers thinking everyone else was up freeing the line etc. Procedurally today on most of the tech boats this is not likely to happen anymore. It can happen on some of the recreational boats that occasionally do tech charters but are not up on some of the evolved procedures.. Anyway The dive group had all ascended and Bill and I pulled the anchor unknown to us there was a squall topside so the moment we pulled the anchor we got pulled from 230 to 140 feet instantly thus decide to let go of the line , fired our lift bag and did our deco, Upon surfacing we spotted the boat NW of us and waved the fins so they would see us as the fin extended higher than the lift bag. . The current was drifting NE so Bill and I swam a easy pace to keep ourselves due south of the boat. About 45 minutes later we were picked up. Bill and I were curious about why the Captain did not just let the anchor drift on a float ball while the other divers were decoing and come pick us up. It is standard operating procedure in pompano to have the boat free for situations like this while divers may deco on the drifting ascent line, but not in Miami at that time. The other missing diver just drifted with the current and was picked up well east of the area Bill and I had remained in. in fact the pickup point was in 600 feet of water. Yes he was exhausted as he was not in the physical condition bill and I were, even though he was a power lifter.
