It has been a common practice to mark tanks with the appropiate label (bumper sticker size available form IANTD etc.), indicating either nitrox or oxygen or deco gas. A contents tags (the size of a cigarrette lighter ) typically hung around the neck of the tank indication the exact % of O2 and the MOD, date of the fill, and the divers initials. The tags would break off, and divers started using duct tape to indicate same info. I have seen some, but very few, divers using the same duct tape as the ONLY means of cylinder identification. I won't fill tanks that only have the contents tape. They must be clearly labeled nitrox, oxygen etc., and have a contents tag, sticker, tape whatever.
