Yesterday I heard that Wes Skiles (well known Florida deep cave explorer) has been suffering from severe osteonecrosis. This is one of those diseases that is very frightening since it seems to sneak up on its victims after years of asymptomatic diving. It is usually thought of as a professional diver's problem, but as technical divers push further into the realm of "professional" diving the more of this kind of problem they find. Do any cavers on the list (Bill Mayne?) have more information on Skiles' problem and what specifically caused it? Is anyone aware of hard information (or even lore) on avoiding osteonecrosis, other than limiting exposure or being conservative with decompression profiles? John
