There was some discussion of what to do with long hoses on this newsgroup last year. Also, see Gentile's "Ultimate Wreck Diving Guide" or the NSS-CDS Cave Diving Manual for some standard wreck/cave diving solutions to long 2nd stage hose stowage. In a nutshell, most people either 1) coil the hose around their neck (the "Hogarthian method"), 2) wrap it in a figure-8 behind the neck, held by two surgical tubing loops which are attached to the tank valves, 3) wrap it in a figure-8 under an arm, held by tubing loops attached to the wings backplate, 4) loop it up and down along the side of a tank, held by surgical loops around the tank. The advantage of 1) is that it is simple, and makes it easy to stow the hose underwater. The disadvantage is that some people don't like hoses around their necks. The advantage of 2) and 3) are that they hold the hose compactly and out of harm's way. The disadvantage is that it is hard to stow the hose underwater. It may also put some extra stress on the hose since it is bent tightly. The advantage of 4) is that it is easy to stow the hose above and below the water. The disadvantage is that it could expose the hose to being cut by a piece of sharp metal on a wreck. I have tried 1, 2, and 4 and prefer 4, but am considering switching to 3.
