Hmmm, Jim, are you saying that there may be a zip tie that is worth the nylon it's made from? The "Mother"of all zip ties? I personally don't use them in torsional flex applications, never even thought of that, but I do count 4 on my rig in total. Two as backups to the Seaquest clamps on my inflator hose, one on each mouthpiece. The "Mother" must be out there somewhere though, as Law enforcement uses them to handcuff 300 lb gorillas in an alcoholic rage. Don't think you can twist those off with a thumb and forefinger. I will grant you, there is junk out there, and I have gotten ties where I have had at least 60% reject rate. But the " Mother " is available, and waiting at your local industrial fasteners distributor, and it does not have to be big and heavy gauged to be "Mother". It is the quality of materials, and quality of the mold design and mold wear that counts. In a piece like this, temperature of the mold is very important during production to control shrinkage, and fit of the ratchets. If you choose to use cable ties, try to get a good one by a quality manufacturer like TRW. Personally, I would think that any application that requires a compression fit, or compression type fastener, would rule out braided line due to its tendency to loosen when wet, or with time.
