Since I am a dentist, I will try to answer your question......

Physiologically it doesn't make sense that you would build up a tolerance to
Nitrous/or narcosis.
The effect is based on gas PP in your tissues and goes away when you lower
the PP and offgas the narcotic gas. There are many different factors which
will effect your tolerance in a specific period. Some of which are
very similar to the predisposing factors to decompression sickness. As you
become more familiar with the feeling of being "stoned" that the gas
produces, you might think that the imparment level is lower. This can be a
dangerous situation, because in effect you only think that you are OK. This
can, and does give divers a false sense of security, and possibly causes
them to "get in over their heads" before they become aware of it.

The moral of the story is....

IF YOU DIVE A NARCOTIC MIX YOU ARE IMPARED.....EVEN WHEN YOUR
BRAIN TELLS YOU OTHERWISE

Dr Dan
