On a busy dive (like a technical one) you'll hit your stops and control your ascent a lot better if you don't have to breath off the device you're controlling your bouyancy with. You'll also find your secondary reg quicker and it'll be less likely to contain debris if it's bungeed under your chin rather than hanging off your inflator hose. If you're deep, you'll also want a high performance secondary reg which delivers all the gas you need. Finally, if you already have a secondary reg., yes, the Air II is an unecessary failure point.
