Tim-

I believe in the buddy concept insofar as two divers training to be a
team, as in the way the WKPP does it. That system works. Or in a
instructor/student relationship which works most of the time.

But not in the respect of a divemaster pointing at two poor slobs and
saying "OK, you two are buddies". That's a bullshit, useless situation
which does nobody any good at all and does not work. It is NOT safer than
solo diving and at best will ruin your dive or at worst get you killed.

And as a matter of fact if you get teamed up with an idiot and that idiot
gets himself drowned, you are legally responsible for the fool. And will
be open to get sued out of your house and home by the surviving family.

I will do anything in my power to avoid diving with some sort of implied
co-reliance on someone I've never met before. It's my choice and it's my
life.
