Greetings! First post here for me, so I'm hoping to stay as politically correct as I can and avoid the nasty flames that seem quite prevalent. I'm a Nemesis IIa EANx user, who rather loves the computer itself, just doesn't care for the fact that the HP transducer system fails on a fairly regular (but unpredictable) basis. Everyone else I dive with has gone to the Commander EANx, which has solved most of the problems with the Nemesis (air integrated problems.) The only downer to the Commander (to me) was the fact that I was doing 3 gas diving (air-35%-O2) and the Commander would only handle 2 gases. Not a big deal on standard accellerated deco tables, which are geared for 2 gases (air-O2). But when the Nemesis worked, it was always reassuring to have it clear me a few minutes before the tables did, accounting for the 35% as an intermediate mix. The other thing I didn't like about the Cochran series is the automatic gas switching. I often support dive for deep teams, and try to stay in no-stop mode for the duration. There are times, however, when some O2 is needed to keep me out of a stop obligation. So if you program the computer to account for that, it's fine, unless you don't use the O2...the computer still assumes I'm on it, once I get above the programmed depth. So, along comes the NiTEK 3, and solves all of my problems. Gas switches are manual (by button), so the support diving isn't a problem. And there's no HP transducer to fail (my unit has actually survived several 'dumb-@ss* drop tests' with flying colors!) It's a durable, reliable, easy to use computer. The only two gripes I have (If you're listening, DiveRite, help me here...) are that the manual is a bit sparce, and the colors they chose are a bit hideous looking. People keep asking me if I can play Pong or Pac-Man on it! But for mix diving, the gauge mode (set it in gauge mode so it doesn't get bent on a trimix) is great! The one other feature I love is the PO2 readout you get based on depth and mix. The only other computer I've played with offering this was an Orca, which didn't thrill me with its reliability. I've had the unit on the reef in 20 fsw, and on the Wilkes-Barre in 250 (and a few in between) and it's been good so far. If I can figure out how to push buttons on it while it's in the pressure pot, I'll put a few wild and crazy test dives on it to see how it handles stuff that I don't want to do in person. Okay, that's my two-bit's worth...email me if you've got any questions. -Case Harris diveman@cy*.co* -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
