I believe I started the thread by asking who had experience with the nitek computer, as dive rite had a trade in program for the bridge II and I was thinking of taking advantage of it! Many people took the time to respond (quite a few privately), with ALL of the responses (concerning the computer) favorable. Most responders were ecstatic with its operation. Based upon these responses I sent my old computer to dive rite, and a week later received a new nitek III. Spent last week on Cozumel/Tulum, and checked it out for myself. Have to say I agree with the others; it is the BEST computer I have ever used. It has more features than I thought it had (for example the logging feature not only tells you the dive number, but what DATE it occurred on, the start time, stop time, dive time, depth, temp, etc., just about everything you could ask for, and a LOT more than others I have used). The deco function was much better than that of my aladin pro which I had used for many years. And it has the feature of allowing for a switch from air/nitrox to oxygen for deco (which I didn't use this trip, although I experimented around with it in shallow water to see what reactions/error messages I could get. This computer seems to have everything for air/nitrox/oxygen diving. I do have a couple questions/concerns (which does not detract from it being the best computer I have ever seen); 1) in log mode, it does tell you which "mix" of air/o2 you used, but does not tell you the % (in other words, it only says "mix 1" "mix2" etc. and not the %. not a big deal, but the log feature is so good in other respects, why not show this as well?. It appears to show this if you use the computer interface to your PC. (dont have the pc interface yet but i downloaded the sofware from their site.) 2) the error messages are not explained as well as they could be in the manual. I managed to get three different ones, could only find two of them in the manual, but one I did seem to get (02 po2 in excess of 1.6) couldn't happen with the "mix" I programmed in (21% o2 i.e.. air). I am sure this is my misreading the manual, but I will be asking someone at diverite to explain exactly what the error messages observed really mean. 3) if you set the logging function to 5 seconds to get a very detailed log of the dive, it only recorded two dives, and on the log screen I couldn't get all the data out. I suspect that the data can only be extracted by the computer connection, but it would be nice to be able to see it on the nitek itself (which CAN be done when set to a 60 second sample rate). also with technology the way it is today, more memory could be built into it to record at least 10 (or more) dives with that detail. Perhaps dive rite was stuck with a "standard" size computer memory, not an unusual experience. Again, in spite of the problems listed above, it is the best computer I have ever used.
