Had a great weekend at SeaSpace '98 in Houston. Helped staff the NACD booth set up by Terry Scoggins and Jon Gol. Fortunately we were right across from the DAN booth, giving us access to o2 and masks, since the smoke from the fires in Mexico was a bit much. ;-) It was a real pleasure to participate in the 30th year of this non-profit dive show, which is held to educate all divers and provide scholarships in marine subjects. Managed to hook up with old friends like Tim Curtis (formerly Carleton, now Dreager), Karl Shreeves (PADI, who told stories of Missouri cave diving), Daryl Carson (ed. of DeepTech and assoc. ed. Scuba Times), Eric Squires (Light and Motion), and the folks with the Historical Diving Society. Also finally met Rod Farb's ponytail, and had a good chat with the folks who designed the helmet rigs for Sphere. My presentation was on Hogarthian rigging and was fairly well attended (by o/w divers!). Included, as well as the usual doubles, was a single tank w/wings set up to show o/w divers the universal advantages of sleek, minimalist, safe rigging. Many, many thanks to Mike Wisenbaker who provided slides; Terry and Jon, who arranged to bring a hog doubles set up and helped me demo everything for the audience. Christopher A.
