 John,
To give you an idea of the relative drag, if you toss out a typical float
ball or float flag behind the boat, and the captain runs it at 10 to 15 mph
while looking for the drop point, with your 600 or so feet of line and float
out---you will be holding on for all you are worth......with the torpedo
design of the OMER or Esclapez spearfishing floats, they zip along the
surface, hardly pulling.  When you are underwater you will feel the
difference --- it will allow deep scootering up current, without the float
loading up water ( the way the balls or flags  floats do).
