Derrick has apparently stated to the public, that the WKPP group, notably George, Robert, Errol, etc., don't know how to ocean dive--that their experience lies only in caves.... As stupid as this comment was ( each of these guys has done far more ocean dives over 200ft than Derrick ever will, and all without killing people).....it is quite obvious that Derrick knows frighteningly less about deep ocean diving than even he is aware of. On his recovery attempt, Sunday, his first act of total stupidity was going down the line Mimms had anchored---meaning he would have to fight a current on the way down. His second stupidity, was leaving his surface float as soon as he hit bottom, apparently because the current was "pulling " him too hard ---- his leaving his surface float, means the boat could not track him---this is dangerous procedure, demonstrated effectively by Andre Smith, in his Triple Death Tragedy. But apparently, this is within IANTD procedure, potentially even in the standards----is it Tom??? So then the boat temporarily lost track of them, but LUCKILY, the bubbles were spotted later by Errol, from his boat, and he reported this location to a nervous Jim Mimms. As Mimms is a good Captain, he managed to follow bubble trails for the remainder of the dive, until Derick's team sent up a lift float. It would seem Derrick and perhaps Tom, are unaware that there are frequently different speed currents on the surface and on the bottom. With experience and knowledge, a decent tech diver PLANS for this probability. The decent tech diver does NOT abandon his surface float ( or his buddy)---he plans a way to use the surface float as his connection to the surface, regardless of conditions. WKPP divers use scooters. They always use the right gear for the dive. The scooter pulls the float, and current is a non-issue. And WKPP divers use a different type of float than fools like Derrick----George and Robert were flying along the bottom , even against the current, as if they were pulling nothing at all---partly because of Gavin scooters, partly because they know ocean diving well enough to have selected a freediving torpedo float to tow on the surface----the thing has next to no drag even in a cuurrent 10 times what these guys faced. It comes down to experience and planning. And intelligent gear choices, versus the type of choices made by Derrick, and allowed by Tom Mount. WKPP divers have even MORE experience in deep ocean diving than they do for cave, since guys like George and Robert have far more time on deep ocean dives than they do in the caves. Guys like Derrick will be unlikely to ever have a clue, and who knows if Tom Mount will wake up and smell the foul stench of his poor past judgements....
