Subject: Blaming or Not - better to prevent
I have no interest in "blaming" anyone for this or other accidents, I
am more interested in discussing them to effect prevention.

We have all argued the concepts well before these accidents of the
past 12 months ever occurred, and I think that if all of you check my
continuous message you will see that it has remained the same, that it
was on the money, and that it correctly predicted everything that has
occured.

Now, there is no point in "blaming" Mount or Derrek. That will not
save any lives. What will save lives is going back over the concepts and
recommendations I have made for the last few years on here, implementing
them, and adapting the atitude that my teammates and I have about our
sport, and asking Mount to do the same.

If you read Bill Gavin's chapter on gear in the NACD manual, he sums
it all up in the last sentence. It is very subtle, but what Gavin is
saying, and what he and Parker taught me, which I am passing on to you,
is that the total attitude and attention to detail will per force create
the winning combination.

We need to ask Mount, as a major TD, to implement changes that will
give divers a chance to learn these things. Since people listen to Mount
( obviously ), we need him to be on board with this. We also need to get
this out to the other organizations who are in this position. I do not
know who they are, I only know Mount because he lives here.

Mount himself has no such problems with students, and although I
totally disagree with his gear stuff and so forth, he himself is a very
attentive instructor and dive buddy. I know, I have dove with him
occasionally for years, and by the way, when I was learning rebreather ,
he was right on me - on open circuit, swimming backwards watching me
like a hawk. In fact, he is a pain in the ass to cave dive with since he
keeps checking on you. However, he needs to stop being Mr Nice Guy.
