Dear Techdiver group, I appreciate you comment ( as critical as they may be). Not every product is for every person. Please don't miss the point, the X-tra system is a pony bottle with a combination regualtor/valve. The transfer hose, if you choose to use it, adds only one hose and is looped between the tank and the divers BC. This hose is the same as the SPG hose and both have a metered air loss rate of about 6 cu ft/min or less in many cases. All dive equipment is subject to failure, the big question is what happens when it does fail. Aside from the advantages of the X-tra system or other pony system (which seems to be lost in the forum discussion) the worse case is a cylinder o-ring failure on the X-tra system which would cause about a 250 psi(6 cu ft.)/min. air loss from the divers main cylinder. Divers, of whatever nature, have to be prepared for such emergencies. This is the same as a safe second free flow situation which they better be able to handle in the several minutes they have available. The X-tra system offers additional ways to catch backup system problems not complacency. The product hopes to address the situation, both by its size and configuration, where the diver has a small pony in his pocket that he filled on day one of a week trip and on day two it leaked down without him knowing. Like it or not this happens. The worse situation, is a backup systems that fails without the divers knowledge. By the time it is discovered he is dead. For the hose counters, the safe second reg most recreational divers carry is now also the reg for the backup system and even the power inflator.
