Subject: RE: kayak diving?

We use a kayak to dive off our sail boat here in California at our local
Channel Islands.

	1) anchoring vs tethering and what is your maximum depth with a
tether?
	We always anchor.

	2) do you kayak further than you could swim if you lost your boat?
	NO!

	3) if so what do you do to make your tether/anchor system bullet
proof?
Two anchors, one is a small Danforth and the other is a strap with
two 10lb weights about three feet apart. The anchor is on two feet of chain
connect to a 1/2 inch line. The anchor line is attached to the kayak by way
of a hole right through the bow. The other weight is tied off to the stern
and on the bottom is where we put a strobe and other staged items.

	4) when/if that fails, what self rescue techniques do you have?
Swim my ass off back to the sail boat.

	5) if/when that fails, what equipment and methods do you have to
attract
	rescue from others?
Red signal flares and a very loud whistle.

We do sometimes use the kayak from the beach and the same applies,
however, we never go further than we can swim.
Also the anchor line is only a 100ft line and I have yet to use all
of it.
