If you are going to act like an ass when >you screw up, you're going to pay! Reason I asked, was I find two kinds of shops - those who play "gotcha" with low tank pressure to try and pad the bill with another visual, and then just take a quick peek for salt water, and those that really seem to care - I've seen the guy at my favorite shop pop a valve, look inside, put the valve back on and fill the tank without any dramatics, give the guy an understated warning about not running tanks empty and charge him the usual $3 for the fill. I asked why he didn't charge for the vis, and he said "I'm doing it for my peace of mind, not his, and anyhow I don't have time to do a full visual and the tank doesn't need one so I don't feel right about charging for one". Good guy, no surprise his business keeps growing while others around him fade. With the former, the "gotcha" shops, they seem to enjoy catching and busting the customers balls. Some get so much into it they keep upping the rules - for example, one shop I know now insists on visual if the tank has less than 700 psi. My feeling is, if the valve is closed, and the tank has pressure, it's OK - if the shop is worried because it has 475 psi instead of 500 they are welcome to look inside, but don't expect me to pay for it. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
