Ken,
I agree,  KISS means keep the isolator open when wearing doubles for full
access to ALL of your
gas...closing the valve only for catastrophic failure.  If the conditions
require ID's due to
solo diving, low vis, very small tunnel...that's what side-mounts are all about.
