Mike: Thanks for the info. Again everybody seems to agree that the power inflator is the "weak link" in BC. Even though so far only a handfull of persons have responded, I wonder if the dive industry should take note and see if there is anything that can be done to improve this aspect if the equipment, or is it really a careless diver or poor maintenance issue? In any case, if the dive manufacturers come out with improvements, they should be reasonably priced... Regarding your upgrade suggestion, I did that a few years ago, twice, and so far so good, for both pieces of equipment have provided dependable service without failure. The inner airtight lining delaminated from the outer material causing leakage through the nylon material. In neither case was this a major air loss, but it was time to retire them. One of those BCs had an inflator fail (valve got sticky) before the air bag did, so I would definitely agree that the most common failure would be the inflator and/or hose. I have heard that the older USD BCs are prone to this delamination problem, so if you are still diving one of these you might want to exersize caution or go ahead and upgrade to insure no problems.
