However, if you look at previous posts, he says he has information about clear standards violations but won't name the instructor.>> I reported the offending Instructor to IANTD, and inquired about it 3 times with Dave Mount. It never resulted in anything. As far as me naming the Instructor, I only have what a student told me, so it is not first hand information that I personally witnessed. If I had a letter, video or tape etc., of thjje student telling me this, I would name the Isntructor in a heartbeat-but I do not have any of that, only what the student told me in the store. So, should I name him?? >>But, he brings up stuff that happened between him and me three years ago. There were no standards violations with the referenced incidents, and IANTD didn't tell me to change anything that I was doing or even imply that anything I had done was wrong, showed bad judgement, etc. He was just pissed that someone else was threatening his monopoly on tech diving in the Brooklyn- Queens area.>> Again, you speak here from lack of info. I have no monopoly, and if I wanted one, I would never help other LOCAL entities, be it stores or independent Instructors. So get your facts staright. IANTD standards, at the time, STATED that ANYONE demonstrating a bad attitude is NOT TO BE CERTIFIED. I had (still have) clear, concrete evidence that who I did not train should not have been trained. You used the excuse that I was trying to "Monopolize" my area as a reason to train said entity. If IANTD did not support their own standards, then IANTD has no standards, and no credibility. Question Randy-if you do not certify someone because they clearly demonstrated a bad attitude and that was the ":standard", then told Tom Mount about it and he personally trained them anyway, what good are the standards?? That was my point with you from the beginning. >>Why won't he name the referenced instructor? Either (1) He doesn't have all the facts and knows it, >> See above. (2) The instructor in question is outside of a 30 mile radius of his store and is therefore not a threat to his empire>> Again, your being silly here. NO ONE IS A THREAT TO MY EMPIRE, NOR VICE VERSA. I turn away more students that are not ready for training or willing to put in the dive time and commitment required than you would believe. >>(3) There is some sort of professional relationship that he feels he should not damage, >> Nope. The only professional thing to do is to stick to the standards, support those that do, and expose those that do not. >>(4) Some other reason that only would make sense to him.>> Whatever. >> So what's Mr. Raimo to do now? He might call and fax IANTD and TDI and ask them to pull my instructor ticket(s) (My previous post was very unprofessional and according to TDI and IANTD standards, lack of professionalism is grounds for expulsion -- NOT). Bret Gilliam will say to him, "Bob, I don't have time for this bullshit. If you have information about standards violations or something like that, I'll talk to you...Is there anything else I can help you with?" Patti at IANTD might call me and ask me to stop antagonizing Mr. Raimo because she doesn't have time to respond to his calls, faxes, etc. Mr. Raimo might even pay an attorney $75 to call or write me, threatening to sue me for something.>> No, I'll just let the people on the list decide for themselves what was right and what was wrong. I upheld a standard and refunded money. You circumvented the standard, and made a profit. IANTD ignored the standard. I am curious though, why did Tom not allow the said dive store to become an IANTD facility?? Either he believed me and my evidence, and did not want to get into a pissing match with you, or he believed you, and did not want to get into one with me. Hmmmmm........ >> What will I do? Continue to ship excellent gas mixing products to dive shops who want to set up for nitrox, trimix, etc, maybe teach a few classes to students who want to be trained and are willing to pay for it, read various Internet forum archives, maybe respond to some posts -- In short, the usual stuff. >> As you should. I have helped sell some of your stuff. I've kept my issues with you separate from your abilities to provide mixing products. My problem with you was not that you sell mixing products-it was this ONE particular case. But are you willing to uphold the responsible actions of others in the tech community?? Or will you simply circimvent them?? I don't think you will. Maybe a learning lesson for all at hand. Raimo. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
