Dan Where do you come up with these ridiculus figures ?? A fat guy needing 4-5 hours of deco vrs a fit guy needing 1 !!! If this was anywhere near true All fat divers would be bent on every decompression dive. Fat takes up & releases inert gasses slower true !! but 5 times the deco for the fat guy is wayyyyy off base. I personaly know a lot of fat divers doing long bottom times requiring 5 stage deco using navy tables made for fit divers & not having a problem. While it possible to debate the quality of navy tables, the point is, using your figures we would be bent to hell & back using such a profile. You have 2 valid points. 1. being fit for diving is obviously better. 2. fat guys can take longer to decompress, and should pad our tables. but you are way exagerating the situation. I personally have dove shoulder to shoulder with fit divers. (same dive & deco schedule) to see them get bent while I did another bunch of dives unbent. There are many factors that effect deco. it very easy to Pick out the fat guy ( just follow the trail of cookie crumbs) others can be at higher risk of DCS but not so easy to recognize. tired, dehydrated, Ect. unfortunatly we fat guys are an easy target. Dan I throw out a chalange to you. I run a dive boat (John Jack) here in the N.E. out Of NYC. Come on up here and lets do some diving. You pick the depth, bottom time & deco schedule. using your figures it should be a piece of cake for you to chose a dive and deco that is SAFE for you (MR fit America) and bends me beyond recognition. I stand ready to be be bent. I offer myself up as the sacraficial fat guy. Come on up here & try. Then we will start diving MY depths, Bottom times & decos & lets see who bends first. All diving, Air fills, Lodging, in water O2, will be provided by me. I start running the boat april 25th to Oct 30th. Come on up any time.
