That could obviously be debated forever. >>no, it doesn't need to be debated forever. the answer is YES.>> Not in my opinion. Let me pose this question-Lets say me and you are diving on the Doria, and we are both diving air. And lets say that the Doria starts at 130' , and goes to 250' at the bottom. (It DOES NOT START AT 130, this is just for example). You go to the bottom, and I do not. You teach that you should not go that deep on air, but because you had an opportunity to do or see something that you felt it was worth the risk to go to the bottom, would that influence me?? Absolutely not. Would I try to stop you-Nope. I might tell you I think it's dumb and dangerous, but I am not going to stop you. Thats your choice, not mine. And if you croke, then another lesson is learned. And if you choose to dive on propane, guess what? I'll tell you you are going to die, but I am not going to stop you. (well, maybe I would). If responsible individuals teach responsible programs, then there students will act on informed information, not a lack of information. >>does "the explorer in you" think it would be educational and a service to mankind to take a tank of 100% O2 and dive it to 100fsw?>> No, not at all. I agree with you. But air to lets say 200 feet is not nearly as dangerous as 100% to 100fsw. >>why is that different than pushing the Air limit? O2 toxicity is O2 toxicity.>> Being at 1.6 ata O2 on 100% is not the same as 1.6 ata on 21%. >>either way we have a better alternative and not using it doesn't accomplish anything in the way of "exploration">> Agreed, but only so long as the better alternative is always available, and the fact is, it is not. And if individuals choose to push limits, knowing the risks, fine. I do not know all of the facts and issues surrounding the sad loss of Exley, but what was his PO2's, END's etc???????? His exploration accomplished plenty. Safe diving, Raimo -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
