> >TDI's approach (not to confuse approach with standards) to teaching tech >programs is much like what you describe, consolidated programs, regardless of >personal feelings others on this list may have towards Brett. Bob, I've heard from George you are an excellent instructor---praise which is infrequently doled out by George. You have to know that with Gilliam as a poster boy for obesity, pot smoking, and bragging about the monumental stupidity of having made a world record depth on deep air, that he CAN NOT help you much more in your future as a good tech instructor. With Gilliam as the "Poster Boy" for TDI, its "rightful" place will be to represent the certification source for the otherwise , uncertifiable. All those "Right to Tech Dive" guys, with bodyfat levels running from 30 percent to 60 percent or higher, and who weigh in at 270 to upwards of 350, will be needing TDI in their future, as their agency of last resort. Yes, you could say that it will be "their Right", to be certified by TDI. It will be "their Right" to have Gilliam as their "Poster Boy". We know you are an excellent instructor, despite your present affiliation. We know your students will become good tech divers. But the card, with its TDI affiliation, will NOT tell boat captains anything about the quality of their instruction---it will relate to them the death toll TDI is becoming well known for. If the Captain actually "knows" who Bob Raimo is, there will never be a problem. If he does not---and lets face it Bob, unless you get a full time publicist, agencies will get more press than you personally.....you will find some of your students have a tougher time getting on deep trips than is fair by their ability and training. You WILL want to affiliate with an agency that deserves you level of training and professionalism. You will NOT want Brett Gilliam's Fat, Narcosis Drunken face, starring out from within your organization. Bob, its "Life Boat time .....your on the Titanic ( good parallel with Gilliam, don't you think:) ....the Titanic is sinking. Pop quiz---What do you do??? My advice is talk to JJ or Mount, and do it soon. Regards, Dan -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
