Phil

I dive Hogarthian and regularly remove my kit to get into the boat. I
dive twins and stages but not singles and not in a RIB. I have no
problems removing the harness by putting my arm through it - I do not
doff the kit by pulling it over my head although would use this procedure
for underwater. I keep my harness sufficiently "slack" to allow ease of
donning and doffing. The beauty of the setup it that it still does not
slop around when underwater doing barrel rolls or whatever. Also, I can
easily reach my valves but can move the gear around to get even easier
access.

I have not dived Hogarthian from a RIB but weather permitting I'll be
doing this 22 March 1998. I do not envisige any problems as getting into
the boat should be similar to hard boats. WRT your thoughts on a long
hose on a RIB, you need to rethink them. I have dived long hose from a
RIB without any problems in the bad old days when I was not more fully
Hogarthian.

Not sure exactly the point you are making here, seems to me that any
death caused directly, or indirectly as a result of equipment and its
configuration is significant but I'm sure you did not mean this. My
issue (as has been stated by others) is that all equipment must be easy
to get to and easy to operate. If there is any complexity in this then
it will be a contributory cause of an incident since when the shit hits
the fan then you have not time to operate convoluted equipment and this
creates additional stress, which reduces the ability to think clearly.
Thinking clearly is your best tool to get out of a problem.

Have you ever dived Hogarthian? I used to own a Buddy Commando and dived
singles from RIBs. I would prefer the Hogarthian setup any day.

Like you I dive in some of the best waters in the world - the UK.
Providing you are a wreck diver!

Subject: Hog: End same old argument?

Guys, girls,

I & others are going over the same old ground again: is Hog kit the only
solution, is Hog philosophy the only way to think.

For the benefit of the uninterested I'm happy to agree to disagree and
save them a flood of same old subject emails. If others want to carry on
the discussion, private or public, thats fine by me. (Id like to see
Bill answer my challenge tho :-) )

For your interest: there've been about 30 public messages now, most
disagreeing with me, some questioning me. Ive had a similar number of
_contributors_ agreeing with me on private email (who can blame them?
Ive answered 50 emails in 2 days & been called a "f***ing moron" for
disagreeing on subjective matters).

If anyone has incident reports where kit rigging caused deaths I'd love
to see if there's anything more significant than "hooked wreck with
widow maker" or "cant reach untethered octopus".

regards ... Phil
