Actually, the first stage, in this case, was not a Poseidon.  This was a
Sherwood Ultima which consists of a Sherwood first stage and a Poseidon second
stage.  With its dry air bleed, a Sherwood will not usually freeflow and does
not require a rubber cap.  The one way bleed valve might have been leaking,
allowing water to enter the spring chamber.
