i have encountered this problem w/ a set of Forte wings and AUL wings. 
what i did was to take just the plain elbow from some old BCs w/ the
octagonal base, and then i actaully destroyed the pull-dump octagonal base
to get the treaded ring retainer off without destroying that.  then you end
up with a plain elbow, an intact retainer ring that already fits the BC,
and a destroyed pull-dump mechanism.  obvioulsy, after this, you can't go
and put the pull-dump back on later, but you're assured that the retainer
ring will mate with the threads on the BC.  good luck
