Roger- Deaths, deaths everywhere. I love this thread, it's such good copy for TDI. How long are you going to drag it on, goose boy? Rob Palmer: TDI Cause of Death: Deep air contributed to or directly caused: Rob Parker: TDI Cause of Death: Deep Air contributed to or directly caused: Dennis Sirven: TDI Cause of Death: Deep Air complicated by intocxication with alcohol and marijuana Douglas Missavage: TDI Cause of Death: Deep Air contributed to or directly caused A rebreather training death in Hawaii (I don't know the name of the individual however a lawsuit is now pending.) And now a new person to add to the list involving a TDI shop in Australia, in a breaking story: On Saturday January 31, five divers from Newcastle just north of Sydney, dived on the Advance, a sunken collier at 48 metres (158 ft). All five dived independently. Bottom time was approx 20 minutes. Only four surfaced. After 90 minutes the surviving divers re-descended to look for the missing diver. They found him on the bottom, dead. In a typical deep-air clusterfuck, the divers were unable to figure out how to raise his body - get gas into his bc or release his weight belt. So they decided to cut the weightbelt off him with a diving knife. In doing so, they managed to put some stab wounds into the corpse. The dead diver was an American living in Newcastle. He went diving with the Newcastle Cave & Tech Dive Shop at Swansea. Until the coroners report is in, it isn't known whether his death adds to the horrible deep air tally of the past year, or was due to some kind of illness. But one thing is apparent. Only deep air could turn a simple body recovery into a horrible fuck-up like this. Roger, how about it if this was YOUR cold, stiff corpse floating on the bottom of some godforsaken quarry. A bunch of narced idiots stabbing you through to cut off your weight belt? How can you promote this shit? Jim On 2/9/98 11:46 AM roger steele wrote: >Oh my Gosh. The word is out.
