In all the speculation on this incident, the consensus is that the BC
failed.  Assuming that there was no redundancy for this piece of
equipment, the question then is why there was no reported attempt, on
the part of any of the divers, to jettison "weight" from the student.

By "weight" I'm referring to any negativly bouyant equipment; ie. steel
stage bottles, canister lights, etc...
