Steve, If you lived in a place where you could not ride a bike, even though you wanted to be a cyclist, you'd have to take trips to go cycling....So lets say every 3 months you get to ride a bike with a bunch of elite cyclists in the mountains, or on fast flats like in Florida......do you actually think you'd have a shot keeping up with elite riders who train every day???? You'd be blown off the back within minutes. If a group is constantly cave diving, and are wired into the best in research and development, they come up with bullet proof standards, proceedures and gear configurations, they get to test this repeatedly, and they have stringent standards for fitness and training---and if this group has zero accidents, but makes penetrations many times further than any other groups....I'd suggest all other groups should listen to what the elite group has to say---they have the experience, they have tested what works, and they know what is safe......Maybe there is some other gear config and some other proceedures that are dissimilar to the elite group's, and that theoretically, this other system "might work"---this being the "personal preference bullshit".....without the testing and the tens of thousands of hours behind it the way the elite group has had, this theoretical system would be suicidal to embrace---it would be stupid-----Gee, I can either be absolutely safe, but have to follow someone else's style....or I can risk my life to say I have my own system!!!! What sounds smarter. The new saying of the day. "Kick an IANTD instructor in the head--the lives you save will be his students !"
