A free flow with a FFM blows the expanding (very cold) gas straight on your lips in an already very cold enviroment. If you decide to make a normal safe ascent with any kind of a safety stop (we dive at high altitude) then your in for a very miserable ride, if deco is required then your SOL. In my case this was only a 70' OW dive so no spare mask was taken. Kind of blows the whole warmer face idea away doesn't it?!
