You Wrote: Cave diving is not the same as ice diving. Please get that though your skull. I have done a river dive for a mile 25 times and have never surfaced. Does that qualify me to do a 2,500 penetration. I don't think = so. I SAY: I agree Randy. That would probably not be sufficient. Sounds like it = could be interesting though. You Wrote: Why do you think you can use cave equipment to ice dive? I Say: Because I do it Randy. I too live in the NorthEast and have to settle = for ice diving. That does not mean I want someone tying a rope to me = while I'm in the water. You Wrote: I can say the same thing about cave diving. What is at 1,000 feet that isn't at 100'. I believe it is still just rock.=20 I Say: Ignoring the personal satisfaction one gets from exploring new things, = there might have been a time when I would have agreed with you, but now, = at some sites, you need to go 2000 feet back at depths of 100fsw or more = just to see something other than mass destruction caused by the jerks on = scooters. These are people that have no technique and no appreciation = for the need to strive for perfection. They correct for their lack of = skills by riding a scooter (big mistake). You should consider some cave training Randy. Not for the purpose of = cave diving, but rather, for a new perspective on diving in an overhead = environment. I would be surprised if you did that and still maintained = that cave diving has nothing to do with ice diving. In Fact, I would = bet that you would change a few diving practices. No caves for me to dive in locally Randy but I can assure you that I = dive a full cave rig on almost every dive I do. Jon -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
