Jim, it is impossible to discuss what we do with somebody who has no background inderstanding, and suffers from what is called "rigid" thinking. With "rigids", there is none of the human mind's ability to grasp a concept, only litteral recognition is possible. For instance, if you said, "Wow, that was a close call", to a rigid like Zmabeck, that would mean that the phone rang nearby. We do not swim in deep water due to the mechanical stress on the joints from the pressure, the other obvious DCS considerations, the problem of eliminating CO2 in a high PPO2 environment, and the other circulatory , dissolved gas, and gas management issues . We train so that we can better handle the exposure, so that we require less gas, and and so that when the shit hits the fan ( not if), we have a fighting chance of survival. Part of my training is ocean swimming, and long distance swimming for me is as satisfying as diving, as it requires showing up every day and participating - you can't fake it, there is no dropping to 330 and bragging about it, there is no deep air, there is nothing but you and the stark reality of your ability and stamina or lack thereof - go the distance or get out of the water and make up an excuse like the usdct does. Nobody who in unpreparred will beat you, at any age, or at any previous experience level - it is all a function of preparation. I pace out until I am sure, and then throw the hammer down - something the fence-sitting bullshittters and deep air diving strokes will never in their lives comprehend the satisfaction of, as they can not grasp anything that takes years of discipline to be able to do , rather than just drop off the boat to 400 feet, waddle to the waters edge and scooter to the hinkle, or light up that joint and get the quick buzz. This thinking, planning, preparing, and training goes into every last little thing we do, and it is no accident that our team does the explorations that have been called impossible by everyone else in cave diving. It is also no accident that the strokes out there spend full time downplaying that , as we make their braggadcio look like the drivel that it is. Nobody wants to recognize that we keep breaking our own records while exploring, and that three of these records were set in publicly accessible caves where only Exley had been able to do anything, and only by himself since the strokes could not help him. It is no accident that we make up no excuses, have never said "if we only had this or that", and that we never talking about what we "will do", "could do", "would do" or "plan to do" - we always say "DID". We did do - over and over again. Nobody wants to recognize that the WKPP pioneered mixed gas cave diving and sets the standards by which this activity is conducted today, that all of the best gear in cave diving emanates from the WKPP, and that the best training for this activity comes from the WKPP. Nobody wants to look at the facts or the track record, as it totally discredits the lies and training nightmare blind alley they have put themselves into. What really amazes me about strokes like Zambeck is that they are ubiquitous, and seem to have an inate abiltiy to seek each other's company like breeding insects. For instance, Zambeck can not understand a thing we do ( see his stupidity below about "joints" in scooters), but has memorized the wakulla project book, a bible of stupidity, lies, deep air clusters, and how not to do things in detail with pictures , illustrations, and testimonials of the absolute worst case of mass strokery ever assembled. How do you deal with ignorance of this magnitude? I am amazed that it continues, and I was talking to Brent the other day, and saying that I would just once like to get a few of these strokes in the water just to show them how bad they really are, but then the longer I do this the more adamantly I adhere to Rule Number One, and the less I want to be exposed to the nonsense that goes on out there. Diving is easy fun and safe, and then there are the Zmabvecks, or whoever that stroke is.
