I made a V-weight when diving Al-80's right in my backplate.
1. Drill a hole of appropriate size to fit a bolt through (~3/8" or so)
2. Make a Pla-Dough damn above and below the band bolts (lower and upper,
respectively)
3. Raise the head of the bolt (w/ a washer if you have one) w/ some
electrical tape or something
4. Pre-weigh the amount of lead that you want, add about 1/4-1/2 lb.
5. Cast away. Don't pour too slowly.

As you can probably guess, the bolt sticking through eases handling of
the backplate while assembling/disassembling, and while you're not
wearing it. Use a nut on the other side of the backplate to hold the
weight in place. Also, even if it does come loose, the weight
absolutely, positively is not going anywhere. The molten lead, believe
it or not, does not burn the Pla-Dough and does not contain enough heat
to melt the nylon webbing (if you're too lazy to take it all out/apart
like I was. I cast ~6lbs I think). However much you need, keep the
height below the bottom of the rounded angle where the backplate bends
into the V.

You do, of course, need to have an Al backplate. . .
