Look mate, the problem in not what is taught & what not. It's clear = cut, the PADI system probably supplies enough information to get a guy = his OW cert (I know, I was a PADI instructor for 7 years!). The problem is how information is being brought across and the level of = experience of instructors, and even course directors. It's fine teaching = a bloke about DCI & Nitrogen Narcosis. But when an instructor is blind = to the fact that 40m is not the absolute diving limit - that stupid. I = give you an example. I trained a PADI DM, who went on to get his = instructor. He also enlisted for Decompression training (TDI Advanced = Nitrox which is a 50m certification). He was frowned on by his Course = Directors for diving beyond the PADI max limit of 40m! I must add, the = course director also had no experience or training in deco diving, other = than maybe steeling that 60m off a wall somewhere in the tropics (single = cylinder etc). So stuff what appears in the manuals, it's the way it's = taught and the attitude of the instructor - being open minded! The main problem is that 95% of new instructors coming through the PADI = ranks don't know and also teach their students so. They are young and = inexperienced with a knowledge base that should you surpass 40m you will = kill yourself - not you can do it, BUT additional training is required! I was personally ousted from a local club when I started partaking in = decompression stop diving some years ago, until those who ousted me blew = there depth on a big blue - then they all turned back to me for = training! This may be true of other training agencies as well. I do have personal = experience of PADI in this country though!=20 Dennis Harding -----Original Message----- From: mrlungs@ak*.ne* [SMTP:mrlungs@ak*.ne*] Sent: 11 December 1997 00:00 To: techdiver@aquanaut.com Subject: Enough PADI crying!!!!
