Jim, It's rare that I can actually contribute to this list, like others I = gain more than I give but we've recently done this. >Does anyone know who sells these things before I hurt myself or burn = the=20 >house down?? The method we used was: 1) cover the twinset with clingfilm, lifting it at the band bolts so = that you make a plaster of paris blank in the shape that you want the = v-weight. 2) Put damp sand into some sort of container - we used a planting tray 3) Push the plaster of paris blank into the sand. 4) Melt the lead, we used a gas ring and a iron crucible. 5) Pour the lead into the hole in the sand - here you need a bit of = skill and judgment - too slow and it will set, too quickly and you will = make a hole in the sand. 6) Let it set. 7) File to smooth any sharp edges. We were quite lucky in that the weights ( 4-5.5 kilos/approx 8 -10 = pounds)we made were the right weight and fitted between the bolts. I = guess that if you needed more weight, you could extend the length of the = hole in the sand with the blank to give you a weight longer than 11 = inches and then drill it to thread the bolt through. I have heard of people making a mould from the plaster of paris blank, = be we decided that as we we only making two that this was not necessary. hth Paul -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
