However I do not believe that the Oceanics deserve such a bad wrap, they were never designed to be used for anything but recreational diving. Oceanic worked with PADI on the algorithim so it works seamlessly with the PADI tables. These tables were never designed for anything but shallow nondecompression diving (<130'). I believe this is why once you go past such limits in depth or time the units become so conservative. Hammering Oceanic for the computer not being good for tech diving makes about as much sense as slamming an Audi for not being a good 4x4 to cross the Rubicon with. For OW diving the Oceanic computers are great, they have a proven algorithim and safety record. Their display and use is the epitomy of KISS leaving little room for mistakes by the casual OW diver. I always recommend theirs or one of the many cosmeticly different (renamed units such as Dacor, USD, etc) units to my OW students. Remember the average diver is not as disiplined, informed or as experienced as most who are on this list. I make nothing from the sales of any computer, this comes from the heart. Jeremy P.S. Sorry to hear you can not make it to the rebreather meeting next month. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
