Today we found and dove a Virgin wreck that sank off of Gloucester Mass. 11/1/1997 The ship wen't down in heavy seas 12002 hours Saturday 11/1/1997 in the beginning of a noreaster that hit our area. The ship was reported to have lost its rudder and was taking on water. 13 people were rescued by the coast guard. The ship is a 160 twin engine twin screw factory ship. It was loaded with frozen Herring and ten thousand gallons of diesel fuel. Doug Howard and Jeff Hanagen in a joint effort with there boats located the wreck. On board the divers were, Doug Howard, Jeff hanagen, Chris Friel, Louise Howard, Mark Miller and Faith Ortiens we were the first to ever dive the wreck making a great day of discovery. We located and hooked the wreck on port side Propeller shield. The wreck lies in 180 fsw. With the only access through the starboard side midships. Conditions were very dark and murky on the wreck. There is a ton of diesel floating free inside the wreck. All of us had a great dive despite the snotty weather conditions and having to shovel 6 inches of ice and snow off the boat and dock to get out of the marina. Air temp 28f water temp 49f no thermocline. Wind blowing at 25+knots 3ft swells and 2ft chop. A GREAT DAY IN THE NORTHEAST. Pirate Chris Friel who stole dougs computer to write this post. Anxiously waiting for the rest of the geriatric divers to cook dinner. Tchau, Homer, the boner thats going to get the bell. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
