An alpha particle is a proton. A proton is ionized hydrogen. Helium has two protons and two electrons, and is usually found as a diatomic molecule, ie two helium atoms stuck together. Helium is still a by product of atomic decay, as is hydrogen. The origional source of helium is atomic fusion (combining hydrogen atoms). -Andrew andrew@ce*.co*.jp* Diatomic inert gas? Inert gas molecule? Have U just reinvented chemistry? He is an atom. Yes it is indeed generated by the fusion of H. The delta mass provides great amounts of energy. Just glance at the sun. But it still is an atom Esat Atikkan -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. Send subscribe/unsubscribe requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'.
