how about that the first topic i actually can say something (hopefully) intelligent about i only have an undergrad chem degree, but i believe thet helium is produced by the atomic decay of uranium 1 atom of helium = 1 alpha particle (same thing) there is a lot of uranium in texas, and the rock is the right sort to hold the helium after it is produced by the decay of this uranium it is produced faster than it can be used at this time simply because science has not found enough uses for it excess helium is stored in large tanks in texas just in case another use ever comes up (or more people wise up and stop diving air) helium is also used for cooling in some of the newer medical scanning devices (mri etc) ted chiasson dalhousie university halifax, nova scotia, canada -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
