how about that
the first topic i actually can say something (hopefully) intelligent about
i only have an undergrad chem degree, but i believe thet helium is
produced by the atomic decay of uranium
1 atom of helium = 1 alpha particle (same thing)
there is a lot of uranium in texas, and the rock is the right sort to hold
the helium after it is produced by the decay of this uranium
it is produced faster than it can be used at this time simply because
science has not found enough uses for it
excess helium is stored in large tanks in texas just in case another use
ever comes up (or more people wise up and stop diving air)
helium is also used for cooling in some of the newer medical scanning
devices (mri etc)
