On my way back from diving the wrecks in Bikini, I stopped in to get a couple of dives in Hawaii. I won't mention the name of the shop, but here is my experience. First, I wasn't allowed to dive Nitrox on 60' dives. I was told it was dangerous, and that it wasn't allowed on Maui. We did three dives to sixty feet and I did a safety stop. I had about twelve hours underwater in the last week. I was on the long tour of the three groups on the boat, but I still had 800 psi left so I hung at 10' for a while. I find that I feel better if I off gas underwater even if I am OK to come up. The divemaster swam up to me in alarm and checked my computer. She thought I was in decompression!!!! The next day when I phoned to cancel any more dives with them, she expressed concern that I was hurt. It amazes me how some people are blind to using appropriate gasses for the dive. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
