Pat- This is my opinion for what its worth. I have heard first hand of one instance where the unit shattered when a rig fell over (standard ones probably would have survived), also if the coating gets scratched you could have a corrosion problem. I still don't understand why you would want or need a lightweight first stage, your just going to have to add the weight back onto a belt or some other less ideal location. Even for travel the amount it would save in your dive bag would be negligable. Too many potential problems to fix something thats not really a problem.
