C- My last few dives in the SW side of Lake Tahoe (heavy population area) had vis ranges from 20' on one dive to 40' on the others. When I first started diving there in the mid '80s vis was over 100' and the old timers said it was nothing compared to what it used to be. The rocks were clean now they have at least 1/2" or more of algae building up on them. When you go over to the sparsely populated East side it still has decent vis but nothing like it was, you can really see the effects of population in action. When you get around the resort areas its like diving a lousy pond. Because of how the gunk is zoned out I have always speculated it was because of fertilizers used by homeowners, parks & golf courses. Its interesting to hear about this happening to other lakes.
