Very interesting........
Firstly, I am somewhat suprised that you are so involved with the
British diving scene to comment, but I guess you no more know who I am
than I know you.
As far as the 'all out effort' goes to prevent George from speaking,
well......
An open letter has been sent, signed by a few people stating that they
were opposed to the BSAC inviting George to speak. Interesting enough,
the signatories include
1) Somebody who George has little time for - period.
2) An importer of some of the dive gear that George has criticised.
3) Some friends of the late Rob Palmer.
You do not have to be that intelligent to work out that all of these
people have ulterior motives for signing such a letter. Rob Palmer was a
good friend of mine - I would not have signed the letter. I was as upset
as most when he died. HOWEVER, I have to agree with Georges sentiments
on the subject, hard as that may seem.
There are wider issues to the recent spate of tragic,senseless deaths
that need to be sorted out - however bitter the pill is to swallow. To
somewone who is minus a couple of friends and has had others with near
misses, it has to be done - be it by an easy or a hard way - it needs
doing.
Maybe one day........
