Just checking to see if anyone has heard any of the info.
about a dive accident up here in Wisconsin in
Lake Wazee. It's a site I frequent, and the local news
said someone out of Chicago died in a group of 4
divers from Illinois. Anyone know which part of
the quarry, who it was, any other relevent info.?

Here is an AP excerpt from the local paper the "Daily Herald":
BLACK RIVER FALLS. Wis - A Chicago scuba diver is the third person to die in
Wazee Lake in recent years, but officials say they don't think the deaths
will discourage other divers from exploring the former iron mine.
Douglas Missavage was in about 150 feet of water Sunday when contact was lost
with three other divers - one an instructor - practicing "deep water diving,"
Jackson County Sheriff Richard Galaster said.
The cause of death is unknown pending an autopsy and testing of equipment,
Galaster said.
Missavage, 33, experienced some kind of trouble, and his companions found
him, pulled him out of the water and reported an apparent drowning to
authorities, the sheriff said.
He was airlifted to a La Crosse hospital, where he was pronounced dead Sunday
morning.
Galster was unsure of the victim's experience as a diver.
The other divers, Evan a. Finke of DesPlaines, Stefan Backus of Chicago and
Adolfo Perez of Skokie, were taken to a Minneapolis hospital where they were
treated and released for injuries related to surfacing too fast, the sheriff
said.
Wazee Lake, about five miles east of Black River Falls, is frequented by
divers because of its very clear, 300 foot deep waters and easy access.
The 150-acre lake is part of Wazee Lake Country Park, which opened in 1995.
...................

A friend of mine happened to be at Lake Wazee when all of this took place.
He was not associated with the group who had the accident but he did
assist in the recovery and attempted recussitation. He said that the victim
lost buoyancy control. The information he had was that the victim, surfaced,
decended and surfaced again with his suit fully inflated. There was some
talk that he had some problem with his suit inflator mechanism.

Dive safely,
Dale
