Subject: more assinine sillyness from iantd
i honestly can't believe my eyes. here i am reading these "training
standards for intermediate trimix course". "intermediate trimix course"?
"intermediate trimix course"? this sounds almost as much of an oxymoron as
"central intelligence agency" or "almost pregnant" or "good deep on air".

helium is fucking helium plain and simple. if you are "qualified" to dive
"intermediate trimix" then why aren't you "qualified" to dive "regular
trimix"? this is really a joke. what does it boil down to? the fact that you
haven't "learned" how to "dive deep on air" first yet.

and then the excuse is "well, for a lot of the decompression for deeper
dives, it's done on air, so you need to be able to handle that". well, for a
35 minute dive on the doria, on 17/35 (a "hypoxic trimix" so i would be
ineligible to use this mix), my first stop is at 130'. yes, i guess that
would be too difficult to dive if i'm only qualified as an "intermediate
trimix diver". and yes, i realize that it would be deep enough that without
a doubt i would need to have taken that deep air course first.

what this looks like to me is one more way to cram another course down
the unsuspecting students throat. tell me, how long before intermediate
trimix is a pre-req to taking full blown trimix? i guess iantd is really run
by a padi mount.

deep air is bullshit. tom, please realize this. how many more people need
to die diving deep on air for this stupidity to stop? it's one thing when
you have dumb rednecks killing themselves trying to break the deep air
record, but it's another when you have instructors trying to sell courses to
teach unqualified students to dive air to 200'. by the way, i feel that no
one is really qualified to dive air to 200' because of how fucked up you are
when you're there. you said it yourself, you like to use the lowrance as a
trimix training dive, take them on air, then back on mix, see how different
the wreck looks to them.

i suppose at least with the intermediate trimix course you won't have to
worry to much about your instructors diving air with their students. a-ha.
maybe that's the reason for this, keep the air diving instructors (while
teaching mix students) shallower then 200'.

maybe it's time another agency step up and "pet the pony" so to speak,
and offer real certifications. let's cut all of the horseshit, there only
needs to be three of these certifications; nitrox, a no bullshit course
which teaches you everything you need to know about nitrox; technical diver,
a course which teaches you decompression techniques, included o2 accelerated
deco; trimix, a course that teaches you how to dive deeper then 130' using
helium in your breathing mix. if the iantd's of the world won't get it right
then it is time for someone else to do it the right way. - dick
