Subject: Deep Air Question...
Date: Tue, 2 Sep 1997 10:46:36 -0700
I have been to 240 FSW on air and looking back it was won of the dumbest
things I have ever done. I remember looking around and thinking "I am
not toasted...this is great...This is not so deep" That is when I saw my
main SPG move greatly with each breath. I also had this funny feeling
like tunnel vision. Our allotted time was up and back we went. On the
way up the wall I remember thinking that I am never going to do this on
air again...no mater the conditions. I was so toasted I could have just
sat down and started daydreaming....without my regulator in my mouth. I
regularly dive in the 100 - 175 fsw range with mixed results. Sometimes
in colder than normal conditions with very heavy work just prior to the
dive I get narched at 120fsw and others I start to feel it at 160fsw.
175fsw on air is about as deep as I ever wish to go.

Now the question.... One of the people who went down to that depth is
convinced that he was ok, (just a little narched he said) and that depth
is ok and he will go deeper. (A side note on this diver...He drinks at
least 4 to 6 beers every night, but never prior to diving.)

From what all of you are saying this friend of mine is going to die.
What would you say to your friend to shed some light on the stupidity of
this practice?

Thanks....
