Let's look at this burst disk thing from another perspective, and not the "Big bad American Government Conspiracy" Lets look at history. The moron who is afraid of Uncle Sam failed to realize that when the burst disk "rule" was put in effect most tanks did not have O-Rings, the valves were torqued into the tank, most of the time with thread seal tape. Is the bursk disk rule obsolete with tanks that have O-rings in the neck seal, I really do not know. Is the rule of burst disks just a hold over from times when the tanks did need bursk disks? What I do now is that I have seen many a cave diver (as well as some wreck divers etc.) replace the bursk disks in the valves and then run their tanks up to ungodly (sometimes to hydro ratings and above) pressures and I have not heard of or seen one valve O-ring go, but if the factory installed bursk disk was in the tank at that time the burst disk would have ruptured. Let's look at all sides of an issue before we blame the D.O.T., Uncle Sam or the U.S. Marines for ploting to interfear with our lives. Especially when we all realize that our government is under control by space aliens planning to take us all away from our trailer parks and use us as underwater space slaves. The idea of a burst disk is for it to blow before an compressed gas tank fails catastrophically. While there are gas storage situation where a burst disk makes sense, in scuba any idiot knows that the Oring will fail long before the burst disk will. The interesting thing about burst disks is as the pressure is pumped up and then relieved, the metal fatigues and eventually fails at pressures far below their rating. This means that more dangerous situations are created by burst disks than avoided. Gosh, thanks once again, Feds. Excuse me while I bend over and assume the position while waiting for the next God-like Edict From Above. In this situation you Europeans are more intelligent than us stupid 'ol dumb redneck amuricans and don't bother with stupid fucking burst disks on your scuba tanks.
