All I obtained a failed cylinder from a local dive shop and a buddy with a machine shop kindly sliced it in quarters and welded 2 of the quarters to a plate to make a "cylindrical" V-weight that snugly fits between the cylinders. I can get a maximum of about 4 and a bit Kg (9 lb) between the cylinder and OMS SS backplate. I also have a baffle shaped to fit inside the mould that allows me to vary the length of the weight cast. If I need more than 4 Kg then I can use the same mould to cast a potentially massive weight that will fit on the outside of the cylinder and be bolted through to backplate. I have not yet cast this weight but plan to do so with SS studding permanently embedded within it so that the weight is snag-free at the rear. My buddy used part of the sliced up cylinder to make cylindrical H-weights of around 1.5 Kg (3.3 lb) each. H-weights keep the centre of gravity low. Each weight is about 30 mm (just over 1") high so it is easy to slot in as many as needed. This idea is excellent but does need a cylinder band removed in order to fit them. I tried it first with the plaster, but that turned into a mess because I did not let it dry long enough. It was like frying bacon in your underwear (another thing I only did once). Anyway, give me a 5 lb weight and I'll trade, or if you want a heavier weight I'll loan you the mold. I'll be putting this up on my web site once I finish one of the other 1,000 projects I'm working on. BTW, the "shop" is Fifth Dimension in Kent. -Jon -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
