Are there any medical fundis out there who can give technical (detailed) reasons why diabetes should be a contra-indication to diving (besides just the possibility of a coma, etc underwater) ? Even though it is common knowledge that diabetics should refrain from diving, I still come across a number of insulin-dependent sports divers. They are usually rather aggressive in defending their right to dive. I have no problem with that, but it obviously does affect other divers in the group, as well as putting a huge responsibility on the divemaster/instructor. Any thoughts ?
